Abstract
Prevođenje velikih količina teksta može biti vrlo zahtjevan i dugotrajan posao. Kao posljedica toga, nastala je potreba za strojnim prevoditeljem. U ovom radu opisani su definicija i vrste strojnih prevoditelja, kao i dobre i loše strane istih. Za potrebe analize prijevoda strojnog prevoditelja, odabran je Google prevoditelj. Dva znanstvena rada i dva popularno-znanstvena rada prevođena su s hrvatskog na engleski i obrnuto. Svrha završnog rada bila je analizirati potencijalne pogreške koje nastaju prilikom prijevoda Google prevoditeljem te raspraviti razloge nastajanja grešaka. Uz pomoć rezultata ove analize, dolazi se do zaključka da, unatoč velikom napretku u zadnjih nekoliko godina, strojni prevoditelji još uvijek nailaze na poteškoće pri prevođenju pojedinih kompleksnijih i dužih rečenica. Iako su u obje vrsta rada pronađene greške, u znanstvenom se radu primjećuju manje greške, s obzirom da nema žargona niti puno rečenica u kojima je nejasan kontekst.
Abstract (english)
Translating great amounts of text can be a demanding and time consuming task. As a consequence, a need for machine translation arose. Explained in this thesis are the definition and the types of machine translators, along with their good and bad sides. For the purpose of the machine translation analysis, Google Translator was chosen. Two scientific papers and two popular-scientific papers were translated from Croatian to English and vice versa. This thesis aimed to analyze the potential mistakes which appear while translating text using the Google Translator tool and to discuss the mistakes' reasons. The research results point to a progress which has recently been made in the field of machine translation; however, machine translation tools continue to come across obstacles when translating some more complex and long sentences. Although both types of papers had mistakes in the translations, there were fewer mistakes in the scientific paper due to the fact that there is no jargon or a lot of sentences with ambiguous meaning.
