The power grid is a complex structure. From the calculation it can be seen how even small changes affect the voltage and the overall state of the network. This work has shown that modern voltage regulation devices such as STATCOM represent the future in networks of any voltage level. STATCOM is still not used in some countries, including Croatia. The development of the network, the increase in the number of consumers, the interest in renewable sources and distributed sources leads to a certain problem of overloading some places in the network. Until a few days ago, effective voltage regulation methods have now remained in the shadows and long-term, efficient and inexpensive solutions in the field of voltage regulation are being sought. One of the solutions used in the network is the replacement of existing cables with cables of larger cross-sections and the creation of new terminals in the event of the appearance of distributed sources in the network. These solutions are good, but only for now. If within a few years at least one more interested consumer appears who wants a power plant at the point of consumption, that solution becomes insufficient. STATCOM is a versatile device and can solve such a problem. STATCOM would definitely be a longer lasting solution than reconstructing the network. This example of a derivative solves the problem of voltage increase in some places in the network in case of low consumption. In addition to STATCOM, a control transformer as well as a battery played a good role. But as cheap and efficient as these devices are, they are not a long-term solution. The example of adding additional DI to the network showed how much the voltage would deviate from the limit values, and STATCOM successfully restored the stability to the network. In some cases, other devices could regulate the voltage, but not in every case. That is why STATCOM is a device that needs to be recognized because it is a long-lasting solution for voltage regulation in the network.
