The paper deals with the analysis of social factors influencing the motivation to install an energy management system. It consists of a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, it was found that there are different groups of factors that affect the motivation to install an energy management system. These are economic, moral, psychological and social. Economic factors of motivation are traditionally considered to be the most important, but recent findings show that they alone are not enough to explain motivation. People often do not behave rationally, so the savings that would come with the installation of the system are not enough. Economic motivation factors are still important for some consumers, but not the only factors that result in high motivation, which ultimately manifests itself in the purchase and installation of the system. The theoretical part also determined the importance of social motivating factors for certain consumers. They relate to social norms and image. While these are generally not the only factors sufficient for a consumer to decide to install a system, they are very significant in combination with other factors. Theoretical assumptions and findings were confirmed by the research of motivation for the installation of energy management systems in electricity consumers. The survey was conducted in the period 04.05.2022-12.06.2022, and it was attended by 107 respondents who provided answers to the survey questionnaire. For most respondents, social factors are a significant motivator for the installation of energy management systems. In percentage, economic factors are still the most important, but moral and social factors are very close. This points to the conclusion that no group of motivating factors should be neglected when creating environmental policies and analyzing the behavior of electricity consumers.
